Recently I had the opportunity to visit Portland, Oregon. A friend took me to a “tourist attraction” which happened to be a religious place. It was called The Grotto and it included an outdoor shrine with grounds filled with native plants, meditative walks and much statuary. An elevator took us above, on the cliffs, to see stupendous views of the city. To me, however, the most beautiful part of this place was a peaceful pond where a hawk perched on a rock as if it, too, was meditating.
I found this pond to be the best part of the grounds. It was tranquil, calming and made me feel closer to God than I would in any church.
On my next trip to Portland, I will make sure to come here again.
