The last time I visited Italy, I had the opportunity to visit Pompeii. It is hard to describe the feeling of walking along the streets and piazzas knowing that a living thriving community lived here; that a Roman city was buried in ash and pumice after the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 A.D. These people’s lives ended in a flash here near the coast of Naples and we can still see their last actions forever immortalized in the residue of the eruption. All that is left now is an archeological site and a tourist attraction.
